Hungary to send two helicopters to Afghanistan
Tuesday 16:57, October 27th, 2009
The Hungarian army will send two Mi-17 helicopters and a 30-strong crew to Afghanistan in 2011, Minister of Defence Imre Szekeres said on Tuesday.

The Hungarian army will cooperate with other NATO member states to jointly provide the logistics required for the transfer of helicopters, he said.

The focus of the Afghan mission will be changed next year, with more emphasis to be placed on the training of the local army. For this reason, NATO will send more staff officers and military trainers to Afghanistan, said Szekeres.

A 30-member contingent from Montenegro will soon join the Hungarian-led provincial reconstruction team in Baghlan province to participate in guarding the Hungarian base. The Hungarians who had so far guarded the facility will be assigned with other tasks, he said. (MTI)
