HUF 200 banknotes legal tender till November 15
Tuesday 16:41, October 20th, 2009
The National Bank of Hungary (MNB) issued a reminder that HUF 200 banknotes may be used to make purchases only until November 15, when they will be replaced by HUF 200 coins which entered circulation in June.

The HUF 200 banknotes that are removed from circulation will be pressed into bricks and presented to three charity organizations for use as fuel.

About 71 million of the HUF 200 coins, which bear an image of the Chain Bridge on the obverse side, will be minted by year-end. The MNB said earlier, it had to replace the entire stock of worn HUF 200 bills every two years.

The old banknotes may be exchanged for legal tender at the MNB, post offices and some bank branches until November 15, 2029. (MTI – Econews)
